Mantra On Kent Hotel, Sydney114 Apartments 4 ½ * Boutique All-Suite Hotel
ClientAustchan Development and Pacific International Hotels
Developed to capitalise on the influx of tourists before, during and after the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, this property was one of first strata apartment hotels in the Sydney CBD.
The Concept arose because our Clients were looking to create a building that would achieve higher returns than traditional apartment buildings for the growing overseas investor market. Being the site is located close to Sydney’s Darling Harbour, as well as close to the city’s main shopping areas, we suggested the idea of a strata apartment hotel concept from our involvement in our previous project at Ettalong Beach.
In the process. together with the Client, their Builder and Operator, PTI resolved the details of the design of this 114 apartment development complete with Bar, Restaurant and public areas. Being it is a narrow site with a single frontage, it had a range of design challenges, however PTI resolved these and guided the project through Development Approval.
PTI then assisted our Clients to package the project for its sales and marketing stage. Our design was inspired by the popular boutique hotel properties that were being developed at the time in New York, which were aimed at both the business and leisure traveller. The concept and investment idea and package were well received by the market and set record prices at the time for strata hotel apartments in Sydney.
PTI then undertook all aspects of the Architecture and Interior Design. We also superintended the contract with the Builder.
The team that developed and operated this property went on to launch the Pacific International Hotels chain of hotels and resorts, a number of which we also designed.
Pacific International was later bought by the Stella Group, which was later purchased by Mantra Hotels that have recently been purchased by the Accor brand of hotels and resorts
