Kent St Offices Building Refurbishment, SydneyRefurbishment Of A Schedule 1 Heritage Building For New Commercial Offices
PTI was fortunate to have undertaken several projects for Varga Bros. Their very insightful approach to development continues to inspire PTI.
This project was the refurbishment and upgrading of this Schedule 1 heritage building. The opportunity to start to investigate this arose when we were designing 433 Kent St (across the road) and were looking for a place to locate our Sales and Marketing suite for the strata hotel apartment pre-sales. PTI arranged with the Owner for this to happen in what had up until now been an old “closed-up” heritage building, and after seeing how beautiful this building was inside (btw the sales programme was successful! see other entry for this project), PTI started working with the Owner to develop a strategy to upgrade the whole building.
The approach taken was based on utilising the new incentives Sydney City Council had instigated for the upgrading of Schedule 1 heritage buildings. We successfully had the building classified as a Schedule 1 Heritage Building and then sold the unutilised heritage floor space which in turn funded a large part of the cost of renovating the building.
In the process we prepared detailed design and construction documents, tendered the works and managed all aspects to completion.
The result has been a building we remain very proud of. PTI was located in this building for some 4 years until the Owner passed away.
